Yarn choice for a crochet market bag

I choice a 75% cotton, 25% acrylic blend of yarn for this bag. This will be a cheaper option than a 100% cotton, but will not stretch like a normal acrylic yarn.

This yarn is Comfy Worsted Weight, from Wecrochet.

Each ball/ skein weighs 50 grams and contains 109 yards of yard.

I’ve used the colour “Whisker” but there are lots too choose from.

I also used this yarn for my Short sleeved cardigan here

How do you join a granny square tote/ market bag?

This bag is made by joining in the back loop only.

It is simpler than it sounds.

You need to place the wrong sides of the squares together and then insert your hook in the back loop only of the stitches that are next to each other and then make a single crochet.

Do this along each square.

The Diagram will show you where to join the squares.

Can you sew a granny square bag together?

Yes, you can join the bag by sewing the granny squares together. I’d use WIP stitch, and again place the wrong sides together and then insert the needle .

This will use less yarn than crocheting them together, but you won;t get the nice “raised” seam” in the pictures.

Can you line a granny square bag?

Yes, you can buy bag liners from some major craft shops. Check the sizing, you’ll want an inner slightly smaller than the bag. You may need to do some adjusting to get the liner to fit (removing handles etc).

Handles measure 30cm (15 inches)

These measures are if you are using a Worsted Weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook for the squares.
